Ok yall...I lied. This is my favorite book. While I loved TJ and Indi's story, Sail and Rival...I'm in love with how he loves her.
Sailor Addison. Miss Courtroom. The middle child. The misunderstood one.
If you read the first two books, then you know Sailor is seen as the selfish one. She seems to care very little for anything outside of work with the exception of her family and as we learn later, even they are kept at an arm's length on some aspects of her life.
Enter Rival Hassan. He's hired to build a custom piece for Sailor, but she has a different custom piece in mind when the job is over.
So, let's pause here: Sailor likes sex with no strings. I'm here for it because she's honest with herself and the men she deals with. But is she though?
In the dark, when no one else can hear her fears and insecurities, Sailor wants what her siblings have found. It scares the shit out of her, though, so she hides the desire under the boss bitch persona. Thing is: Rival is looking. The job takes months and during this timeframe he is able to see layers of Sail that no one else is privy to. He sees her.
Anyway, Sail wants the D and Rival is like
Yall know what the girl did. SMH And being a lawyer, you would think she would work in a loophole, but nope, Miss Sailor dotted all her i's and crossed all her t's. Apparently, she's a functional drunk. Miss "I don't want a husband" now has a husband, who won't grant her a divorce or annulment. She is pissed. As you can guess this goes over well with the family.
After being a brat, (the bad kind not the good kind), Sailor starts to realize that maybe there is more to Rival than she thinks. He remembers all her favorite things. He's dominant. que Jill Scott
And Sailor likes that shit. I'm not going to go to deep into the details because I genuinely hope you read this series, but Rival is a protector and he goes toe to toe with Senior over her. Baybeh, that's a man!
80% into the book, after Sailor decides to make this marriage a thing and I'm all giddy, and the shoe drops, thanks to Senior. This
Sailor runs and Rival goes after her. She let her walls down, and now look what happened. The reassurance she needs, he gives. The space she needs, he gives. (To a degree.)
I just check for quotes and I only highlighted three passages because I was that into this book.
My favorite: "I'm always going to show up and I'm always going to choose you." - Rival
To be seen the way Rival saw Sailor is all a person could ever hope for in a connection.
I will be looking into KC Mills catalog a little more as the year progresses. Up next though, I head back to Jahquel J's world. I'm debating about reviews though because I'm 14 books in with this family and jumping into the next book with no background will be a lot harder than it was with Rome. Guess I've got some decisions to make.
