Meet Dr. Carmen April Dope Black Podiatrist, Blogger, and Philanthropist

There are people that you meet in passing and they leave a lasting imprint on you. I met Dr. Carmen April while we were attending Mississippi State University nearly 20 years ago. Her class, grace, and natural leadership abilities were present even then. Dr. Carmen April is a native of Mississippi and graduated Magna Cum Laude from Mississippi State University with a B.S. in Kinesiology. She earned her Doctor of Podiatric Medicine Degree from Temple University School of Podiatric Medicine in Philadelphia, PA. She then successfully completed a 3 year Podiatric Surgical residency at Providence Hospital in Southfield, MI.



Dr. April enjoys all aspects of Podiatric Medicine including conservative and surgical treatment of the foot and ankle. She loves to educate her patients and lecture in the community about foot health issues. She is a business savvy professional who started a medical practice, The Foot and Ankle Healthcare Center and grew a patient base from 0 to over 1,000 new patients in her first two years.



Dr. Carmen April is married to Mr. Lionel Washington and together they love to travel and experience the great local restaurants Nashville has to offer!

For over 15 years, Dr. Carmen April has been leading teams and empowering others to tap into their leadership potential. She's a mentor to many including high school and college students, medical students, and residents, who shadow her in her practice and to budding entrepreneurs at the Nashville Entrepreneur Center.
