From One Anxious Mama To Another

Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. PHILIPPIANS 4:6

Let's start by reading the Scripture verse above a few times, just to let it sink in. I have suffered from the effects of severe anxiety and depression for such a long time. They are a very real part of my everyday life, but this Scripture helps to remind me that God sees all my worries and the heavy weights that I feel. We can come to Him at any time and share that anxiety with Him. But Sis, He already knows what’s on your heart. Coming to Him, as your Father, and bringing whatever has taken over your mind with worry and anxiety helps us let it out. I am also learning to use spaces like my blog and A Tribe of Dope Black Women community to let out the human parts that plague my heart and find relief.

The point is to let your requests be known, realizing that God is already working it all out. We need to recall the words, “Thy will be done.” As we raise our kids, we must remember it’s God’s plan, not ours.

What if we lived in a posture of surrender instead of a posture of anxiety? What if we surrendered our worries, plans, and thoughts to God as we’re called to do? As His will is accomplished in our lives, remember that God is trustworthy—He’s the Creator of the universe, after all! He knows there will be times of worry, and He wants to make sure you know He has you and your kids safely in His hands.

I can remember a few years ago worrying about so many things. Now I look back over those things and remember that it wasn’t the worrying that changed anything. It was my faith in God and a shift in my overall posture that changed things. God wants us to lean on Him, trusting in Him and not on our own understanding. He tells us to not worry. So Sis, today and every day going forward, let’s try to do just that.

”Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.“

‭‭Philippians‬ ‭4‬:‭6‬-‭7‬ ‭NLT‬‬

”And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise. Keep putting into practice all you learned and received from me—everything you heard from me and saw me doing. Then the God of peace will be with you.“

‭‭Philippians‬ ‭4‬:‭8‬-‭9‬ ‭NLT‬‬
