When is the last time you made time for yourself? Time to do nothing or time to do things that you want to do? For me it was becoming harder and harder to remember when I intentionally planned time for myself. Now I start my days early (4am to be exact) just to spend dedicated time with myself. I pray, exercise, meditate, and affirm myself each morning before my family wakes up. Finding the time to pour into my own cup has rejuvenated my spirit. I think clearer. I have more energy and I feel less irritated by the things beyond my control.
The issue with making time for things is that most of us don’t have the time to spare. We can get so busy running kids to sports practice, making work deadlines, and pursuing activities upon activities, that when we finally do get to sit down, well, doing absolutely nothing for two minutes is what brings us the most joy. And honestly there’s nothing wrong with doing nothing bringing you joy. I find great joy join in doing nothing too. But, how can we make time to do what we love, to pull out our crafts and paints, take a long walk, or hang out with friends? The answer isn’t easy. It’s another thing “to do” on your list. But it’s so important to make time for you. Even if it means waking up hella early each morning to drink your coffee, exercise, and talk to God for few minutes—those fee minutes could change the trajectory of your entire day! And while you’re sitting with Him, ask Him to bring you joy throughout the day, ask Him how to add “me time” to your calendar, ask Him to take away all the mom guilt and all the worries that are clouding your mind.
Also, did you know you can find peace on your busiest day by whispering a prayer on your way into that important meeting, or thanking God for the sunshine on your face as you walk across the parking lot into the grocery store? You can lean into God’s rest and tap into His joy anytime, anywhere.
Here’s the deal—if you can, make time to do what brings you joy. You’ll find that when you do, it will refresh your spirit, recharge your soul, and maybe even uplift the atmosphere in your home. But if you can’t, God is still with you. He will never leave you. Don’t forget to call on Him throughout your days.
Sis, you are an incredible woman! Be careful not to get so caught up in the daily struggles of mom life that you forget to enjoy your life. Take a moment to sit back and remember what you used to love to do and what you love to do now. Embrace those passions! Nurture them! When you do, you’ll be a radiant example of living a full, joyful life for your children to follow.
”For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.“
Ephesians 2:10 NIV
What are you doing for you this weekend?
Love,
